You’re Not a Universal Shoe Size—And That’s Holy

Writer's picture: Called To PurposeCalled To Purpose

Have you ever found yourself constantly craving something new? A new place, a new conversation, a new challenge—because the old gets boring real quick?

For the longest time, I thought something was wrong with me. Why couldn’t I just settle, enjoy the rhythm, and blend in like everybody else? Why did I always feel out of place in spaces that others seemed to thrive in? It wasn’t that I wasn’t trying—I genuinely attempted to fit in, adjusting my speech, my thoughts, and even my dreams to match what was “normal.”

But no matter how much I tried, the discomfort always returned, like wearing a pair of shoes that just didn’t fit.

Then it hit me—God never called me to be like everybody else.

Yet, we live in a world that preaches sameness. The crowd whispers: "Be relatable." "Be palatable." "Be normal."

But what if normal was never part of your design?

The Shoe Size Revelation: You Can’t Stretch What’s Already Set

Imagine being a size 6 but spending every day hoping to magically grow into a size 8. You squeeze your feet into shoes that don’t fit, hoping they’ll stretch over time. But instead of becoming more comfortable, you end up with blisters, pain, and frustration.

That’s what it’s like when you try to be something you’re not.

And yet, so many of us live this way. We try to conform to expectations, hoping that if we just try hard enough, we’ll fit. But here’s the truth: God designed you with a specific fit, a specific calling, and a unique way of walking through life.

What’s the solution? Instead of forcing yourself into a size that was never meant for you, learn to:

Embrace your true size – Stop apologizing for the way God designed you.

Find shoes that fit – Seek spaces, relationships, and opportunities that align with your identity.

Walk confidently in your calling – Trust that God knew what He was doing when He made you different.

This isn’t just about comfort—it’s about purpose. Because when you finally stop forcing what isn’t meant for you, you free yourself to explore who you really are.

The Accusations Will Come—Keep Walking

Here’s the thing—when you stop trying to fit in, people will notice.

"Oh, so you think you’re better than us now?"

"Why are you always changing things up?"

"You’re so difficult to keep up with."

And my personal favorite: "You think you’re all that."

On the contrary—you are all that. Not because of arrogance, but because God called you to be a builder in His name. You were designed for something specific, and if others could see the refining process you went through to get here, they’d understand that humility was not optional—it was mandatory.

But let’s be real—sometimes it looks like you’re boasting because you move with confidence. Sometimes it looks like you’re prideful because grace makes it look effortless.

But the truth is, there were nights of tears, seasons of isolation, and moments when you begged God to take the weight off your shoulders.

And yet, here you are.

The Holy Spirit: Your Ultimate Size Guide

So, how do you navigate this journey without falling into pride or fear? Simple: let the Holy Spirit check you.

Not the crowd. Not the voices in your head. Not the fear of judgment.

Just Him.

If the Holy Spirit gives you the green light, keep walking. If He says pivot, adjust. If He tells you to take up space, stand firm.

Because here’s the truth that changes everything: You will never happen again.

There has never been, and will never be, another YOU.

So why waste time shrinking, apologizing, or diluting yourself just to make others comfortable? Instead, lace up your God-given shoes, walk boldly, and trust that the path ahead was designed specifically for you.

Final Thought: Walk Like You Mean It

God never intended for you to blend in—He called you to stand out. He didn’t design you to fit everywhere—He designed you to fit somewhere.

So, instead of spending your energy trying to be a universal shoe size, start owning the unique, one-of-a-kind masterpiece that is YOU.

And if that makes you stand out like a sore thumb? Good. That just means you’re finally walking in alignment with the One who made you.
