I used to think grieving was reserved for the people we loved and the things we lost. But have you ever had to mourn a vision? A dream you once held so close? People often talk about surrender like it’s a leisurely walk in the park. But the truth is, it’s a deep, transformative journey—one that reshapes your will, your choices, and your desires. Surrender is dying to yourself so that God can begin to use you.
The Shedding Season
Last year, I thought I had undergone the hardest shedding of my life. But stepping into this year, I realized I was wrong. I was ready to build the vision God placed in my hands. I had my hands on the plow, ready to go, when God stopped me in my tracks.
"You cannot build while carrying the baggage in your heart and mind," He said.
And just like that, I was asked to sit down, grieve, and let go. Grieve everything I was. Grieve everything I wanted. Come into agreement with where I am now and embrace my new identity. The old me had to die—just like the Israelites mourned Moses before stepping into the Promised Land.
Letting Go of the Old Me
It hit me like a ton of bricks. I am no longer the old version of myself. That girl who desired to rise through the ranks to prove she was the best? Gone. The girl who relied on applause and guidance from others to feel validated? Gone. The girl who thought a six-figure salary would make her finally feel seen? Gone.
Now, I’m simply a yielded vessel of God.
Perhaps you can’t fully comprehend this now, but there will come a crossroads where God asks you to fully give yourself to Him. To pour out everything you are so that He can fill you with His Spirit. I cried in ways I cannot explain—a deep, soul-cleansing cry that comes from the belly and the heart. Once I was done, God said, "Come and spend time with Me. Let Me build you back up."
Aligning with God’s Will
God’s will isn’t always easy to accept, but for Him to start working in you, your soul, spirit, and body must fall into alignment. To build a business or fulfill your calling according to His will, you must ask yourself: Have I fully surrendered everything I think I am to Him?
Building with God comes with its challenges. Yes, He will give you fresh ideas, perspectives, and insights. But it’s also a partnership like no other. Imagine working with someone who sees every corner of your heart and mind—someone who knows you better than you know yourself. It’s next-level, and it will stretch you in ways even your toughest boss never could.
Learning to Trust in the Storm
In this season, I’m learning to walk in God’s will and let go of my own. It takes trust, humility, and vulnerability—more than I thought I had to give. But step by step, as I let Him lead, I’m learning to trust even in the storm.
God has called you to start that business, step into that role, or fulfill your purpose. But before you take another step, ask yourself: Are you truly surrendered to His process?
