Stepping into 2025, I’ll admit—I felt a little off-kilter. My goals weren’t neatly written down, and it felt like I was stuck on my own little island. Maybe you’ve been there too? In that quiet, somewhat chaotic space, the Holy Spirit began to open my eyes to some powerful truths. Spoiler alert: it’s not about doing more; it’s about doing less and letting God lead.

Here’s the deal. We claim we want to build God’s way, but how often do we find ourselves grabbing the wheel, white-knuckling it through life, and asking God to bless our already-made plans? Guilty as charged! But this year, I’m choosing something different. I’m choosing to build from a place of God’s rest and His finished work.

The Burnout Cycle Ends Here

I’ve tried building on my own strength. Spoiler: it didn’t work. All I got in return was burnout and a few spectacular dead ends. Can you relate? Whether you’re leading a team, managing a business, or simply trying to keep your household in order, the temptation to rely on your own power is real. But here’s the good news: it doesn’t have to be that way.

The Bible says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1). Translation? Stop hustling and striving in your own might. When we embrace God’s rest, we’re no longer running on fumes. We’re building on His strength, His wisdom, and His timing—and let’s be honest, His track record is flawless.

Surrender Is the Secret Sauce

As a leader and builder, I’ve realized that discipline is vital, but even more important is being led. This requires a level of surrender that isn’t always comfortable. It’s about submitting your thoughts, feelings, dreams, and desires to God and trusting Him with the outcome. When we truly surrender, something remarkable happens: our flesh—our selfish wants, our need for control—takes a backseat.

Here’s a tough but necessary question for you: Have you really ‘died’ to self? Are you building from strife, or are you building from rest?

God’s Rest Is Not Passivity

Let me clarify: resting in God doesn’t mean lounging on the couch and waiting for blessings to fall from the sky. It’s about intentional alignment. It’s showing up with diligence and faithfulness but letting God set the pace and the direction. It’s choosing His wisdom over your hustle.

Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” That’s the promise of God’s rest—strength, renewal, and forward momentum, all without burnout.

Final Thoughts

This year, let’s leave behind the striving and step into the finished work of Christ. Let’s embrace the freedom of building in God’s rest. After all, He’s the ultimate architect, and His plans are always good.

So, what will you choose? Strife or rest? Control or surrender? The steering wheel or God’s perfect plan? The choice is yours.
